Choose sunscreen beyond the SPF number.

Three label checks, then a texture you will want to use.

Look for the essentials

The AAD recommends SPF 30 or higher, UVA/UVB broad-spectrum protection and water resistance. Check the actual packaging; an SPF number alone does not confirm every feature.

Make it practical

Compare the texture, size and directions for the product itself. Check that it fits the way you plan to use it, and read the water-resistance instructions rather than assuming it is waterproof.

Use matters, too

Apply before going outside and cover exposed skin. Outdoors, reapply every two hours and after swimming or sweating, following the label. Sunscreen belongs alongside shade and protective clothing, not instead of them.
